At Woven Market Africa, we believe the loom holds the power to transform economies, preserve heritage, and restore dignity through meaningful work. Our impact is rooted in one central question:
“If we could reweave Africa’s future, would we start with the loom?”
The challenges are clear. Our indigenous handwoven textiles are losing demand. Our weavers are aging out. Younger generations no longer see weaving as a viable or dignified livelihood. There are few systems in place for training, scaling, or elevating this industry on a national or global level.
These are the questions that stirred us into action and catalyzed the founding of Woven Market Africa.
We work directly with local artisans across Nigeria to revive indigenous handwoven textiles and reconnecting them with modern fashion and interior markets. Through custom design and collaborative development, we create meaningful garments and handwoven textiles for bridal industry, interior design and creative projects.
We are building a functional, scalable artisan economy that preserves craft and enables growth, innovation, and legacy. Over 70% of our artisan network are women. Many now earn sustainable incomes that support education, land ownership, and home building.

We run a made-to-order model that minimizes overproduction and textile waste. But beyond reducing fabric waste, we focus on avoiding the most tragic form of waste: human potential.
We invest in tools that help artisans produce more efficiently while retaining the unique quality of handwoven work. And through every step, we emphasize cultural sustainability, economic equity, and low-environmental impact.
Building for Scale
We are actively solving systemic barriers by:
Investing in artisan tools, training, and infrastructure
Positioning handwoven textile as part of Nigeria’s formal fashion and interior design economy
Participating in global exhibitions and trade shows
Advocating for curriculum development and policy inclusion
Supporting pathways to certification for African textiles in global trade
We also envision a future where handweaving is formally studied, just like architecture or design complete with institutional frameworks, degrees, and global recognition.
We are preserving and activating the culture of handwoven textile as a force for economic transformation and global relevance.
We envision:
A certified, export-ready handwoven african textile ecosystem
A bridge between master weavers and a new generation of designers
A formal place for weaving in education, policy, and trade
African textiles represented at the highest levels of global fashion, interiors, and ethical sourcing
This is how we move from preservation to participation, and from heritage to scalable impact.
We are building a new model of circularity, cultural intelligence, and economic equity through handwoven textile.
We invite you to:
Partner in building artisan-to-market pathways across Africa
Fund creative and technical training programs for artisans
Support certification efforts that position African textiles for global trade
Collaborate on policy advocacy and educational integration
Embed African artisans in global ESG and sustainability frameworks
